Document controller

Every drawing, letter and revision in its right place.

Steps in the video
  1. 1The file, properly named
  2. 2The file's status
  3. 3The transmittal
  4. 4The old revision archived
A day with EDC
  1. 08:00

Receives new drawings and names them with the shared code

  2. 10:00

Supersedes the old revision so it disappears from site

  3. 13:00

Sends a transmittal to the consultant, stamped and timed

  4. 16:00

Finds any old letter by search in seconds

Who they work with on EDC
Who they are and what they do

The document controller keeps and sends out every project document: drawings and their revisions, letters, inspection requests and minutes. They make sure site works from the latest approved revision, not an old one.

If an old drawing reaches site, the mistake gets built in concrete. They are also the project's memory: in any dispute or claim, everyone turns to what they kept.

How EDC helps them

In EDC every file is named to ISO 19650 and kept in the common data environment (CDE) with its status (work in progress, shared, published, archived). Transmittals are logged, and when a new revision comes out the old one is marked by itself.

Every file is named with one ISO 19650 scheme for all parties, and its status is clear: work in progress, shared, published or archived. Search finds any letter or drawing by its number or by the words inside it.

What you can do
  • Name and file documents to ISO 19650
  • Send transmittals with a full log
  • Mark old revisions automatically
What you gain
  • Nobody builds from an old drawing
  • Any document found in seconds
  • A clean audit trail
